"It Seems To Me . . ."

This phrase became almost universal among readers of The Examiner while it was being published on paper in the last half of the 1980s.  It was the title and theme of a popular "column" written by Art Thompson, then of Southeast Florida.

The phrase indicated in a subtle way, that the thoughts contained in the column were his opinion only.  But, you may read and see for yourself some of the nuggets of insight into Divine Inspiration contained in the brief commentary.  Sometimes written with a pen dipped deep into the well of sarcasm; at other times he paints with light humor; at still others, his thoughts are bathed in pathos.  Come join us.

Additional columns are still being written, and will be published on this site.

Some Topics . . .

Prayer -- How do you pray?  Is your prayer to some distant God, and filled with generalities, and high-sounding, yet obsolete "Thees", "Thines", and "Thous"?  God changed Art's way of praying for the better and for the rest of his life.

(Biblical) Figures Of Speech -- Much of what Jesus said, and what the writers of scripture wrote is in figures of speech.  Some call them "word pictures."  How should we understand them?  Can we?

"Forsake Not . . ." -- Many doctrines about assembling, some quite strange, have risen out of Hebrews 10:25.  Does ". . . forsake not the assembling of yourselves together. . ." mean what you thought it meant?

Edifying -- What does it mean "to edify"?  An edifice is a building.  Is there a connection?

Necessary Inferences and The Law of Silence -- This unique method of interpreting scriptures (called hermeneutics) has led to countless divisions in the Churches of Christ . . . one branch in the offspring of what is sometimes called "The Restoration Movement".  This method continues to draw ever smaller circles of fellowship for them.

Those "Unnecessary" Inferences . . . -- How many of those "inferences" that we draw from our Bibles are really "necessary".  That is, the only conclusions (inferences) which logically may be drawn from what is written?

The Late, Great Commission -- How many do you know who have traveled thousands of miles on "mission trips", simply because they believed they were fulfilling the part of the "Great Commission" which says, "Go into all the world!"?  Here's a fresh and refreshing look at what the Great Commission really says.  You may be surprised!

Are We Out Of Focus? -- Do we still make the "main thing" the "main thing" in our lives?  Or have we placed the emphasis on the wrong things?  Something to think about.  It's at the center of who we are as God's children, and who we should be!

Networking -- "No man is an island," someone said.  That's true.  We're here in our own time, along with a few billion others like us.  Shall we isolate ourselves from them?  Don't decide until you've considered these thoughts.

Self -- In your meditations, have you ever considered who you really are -- deep down inside?  Who you can become?  Paul, an apostle, said we should have in us "the mind of Christ".  Can we?  How?
